Last updated: 20 September 2026

Chaos & Calm is operated by Dammit Janet Fashion (Pty) Ltd (registration no. 2022/727889/07), based at The Palms Centre, 145 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock, Cape Town, 7925. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how we protect it, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Information Officer

Our Information Officer is Robert Dobie, who is responsible for how we handle personal information and for any request or complaint about it. You can reach him at chaosandcalm.cpt@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Contact and order details: name, cellphone number, email address, and delivery address where an order is shipped
  • Purchase history: what you've bought from us, online or in one of our shops
  • Payment: card payments in our shops are processed through Yoco; we do not capture or store your card details
  • Fittings and custom orders: if you visit the studio or a shop for a fitting, alteration or made-to-measure piece, we take the measurements needed to get it right
  • Enquiries: name, email and message if you contact us through the website
  • Marketing preferences: if you sign up to our mailing list, in-store, online or at a market or show stall, we hold your name and email address, and track opens and clicks so we know what's useful to send
  • Photos and video: from our own photoshoots, or that you send us and agree we can share on our social media or website
  • Website activity: pages viewed, items added to cart and orders placed, collected through the analytics and advertising tools described below

Why we collect it, and on what basis

We process your information because it is necessary to perform our contract with you, because you have consented, or because the law requires us to keep certain records. Specifically:

  • To process and deliver your order, using The Courier Guy for online deliveries
  • To make sure a fitted or custom piece actually fits
  • To communicate with you about your order
  • With your consent, to send you news about new stock, restocks and promotions
  • With your consent, to share your photos or video on our social media or website
  • To improve how we run the shop and the site
  • To meet our accounting, tax and other legal obligations

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the business. Each receives only what it needs to do its job and is bound by its own privacy and security terms.

  • Shopify, which hosts our online store and processes orders
  • Klaviyo, which handles our email marketing
  • Yoco, which processes card payments
  • The Courier Guy, which delivers online orders
  • Google, through Google Analytics and the Google and YouTube sales channel, which measures how the site is used and supports our advertising
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram), through the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, which measures the results of our advertising. This includes sending Meta a securely hashed version of identifiers such as your email address or phone number so it can match activity to an account. It does not give Meta your details in readable form

We do not sell your personal information.

Information sent outside South Africa

Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on the data processing terms we have with them, which require protection substantially similar to that provided under POPIA, and on the fact that the transfer is necessary to perform our contract with you, for example to host your order or deliver your parcel.

How we keep it safe

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. Our store and our marketing tools are accessed through secured accounts, and access is limited to the people who need it to do their work. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take it seriously.

Children

Our website and our marketing are intended for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to place any order and to sign up to our mailing list on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of a child without the consent of a parent or guardian, and if we become aware that we have, we will delete it. If you believe we hold information about a child, email us and we will remove it.

How long we keep it

We keep order and customer information for as long as we need it for accounting, tax and company record-keeping purposes, which is generally five years and in some cases longer where the law requires. Mailing list details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • See what personal information we hold about you
  • Correct anything that's out of date or wrong
  • Delete your information, where we're not required to keep it
  • Object to how we are using your information
  • Opt out of marketing, at any time and for any reason

To do any of this, email us at chaosandcalm.cpt@gmail.com. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies

Our site uses standard cookies to remember your cart and improve how the site works. We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site and the Meta Pixel to measure our advertising. You can control cookies through your browser settings and manage Meta's ad settings in your Facebook or Instagram account.
